Alyce Santoro:
Imagining Sound

Alyce Santoro makes "philosoprops" that are intended to be used – or at least imagine being used – by those who encounter them. For her solo exhibition Imagined Sound, Santoro presents her Tonal Relativity Series (TRS), a twelve-color spectrum that can be used to explore and convey relationships within a 12-tone musical system. In this selection, the TRS takes the form of works on canvas and sets of 3-dimensional shapes, including wooden objects and sets of colored dice. Audiences are invited not just to observe the variations in tone visually, but to imagine what they would sound like.
